Mesir paste has been made in Manisa, Turkey since 1539 — created by the royal physician Merkez Efendi for Hafsa Sultan, mother of Suleiman the Magnificent. The recipe brings together 41 carefully selected herbs and spices, each chosen for its aroma, flavour, and traditional significance.

Every spring, thousands gather at the Sultan Mosque in Manisa as mesir packets are thrown from the minarets to the crowd below — a tradition recognised by UNESCO in 2012 as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In 2024, the European Union granted Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status to Manisa Mesir Macunu, making it Türkiye's 29th EU-protected heritage product.

The Mesir Festival
Why This Sweet Is Different

Thrown from a mosque roof every spring since 1539

Every year in Manisa, Turkey, tens of thousands of people gather at the Sultan Mosque. Packets of mesir paste are thrown from the minarets into the crowd below — a tradition that has continued for nearly 500 years.

The story, the festival, and the 41-spice recipe are all part of what you're sharing when you give mesir paste. It isn't just a sweet. It's a piece of living history.

Fast delivery and fantastic service
★★★★★

"Wasn't totally sure what to expect when I ordered, but the paste has such a deep, warm spice flavour. You can really taste the quality and all the different spices in it, sweet and warm at the same time. I've never tasted anything quite like this before."

David L.
Rich and warm spice blend
★★★★★

"Perfect soft and chewy texture and the spice mix balances out the sweetness really nicely. My family pretty much devoured the first box in two days. Super tasty and very addicting, ordering another box now!"

Elena R.
On the Mesir Lokumu
★★★★★

"Such a unique hot drink. Love that it's made from the traditional mesir herbs and spices instead of regular tea leaves, so no caffeine. It brews into a really soothing, aromatic cup that's great for unwinding in the evening. Highly recommend giving it a try."

Marcus T.
On the Mesir Tea
★★★★★

"The little individual sticks are super clever and handy. I've been using them as a spiced sweetener stirred straight into my morning tea. It melts right in and gives the tea an incredible flavour boost without any mess. Really clever idea!"
