What is Mesir Paste?
Mesir Paste is a traditional Manisa sweet paste made with 41 herbs and spices. It's sticky, sweet, aromatic and gently warming — usually enjoyed in small pieces, shared with tea, or given as a traditional food gift.
In Türkiye, Mesir Paste is traditionally known as a herbal paste. We present it here as a traditional Manisa food gift — not a medicine or health product.
What Does It Taste Like?
Sweet first, then warm and aromatic. Think cinnamon, ginger, cloves and herbal depth — not chilli heat. If you like chai, gingerbread or spiced sweets, Mesir is surprisingly approachable.
A 500-Year Manisa Tradition
Mesir Paste is linked to the centuries-old Mesir Macunu Festival of Manisa — a spring tradition associated with Hafsa Sultan and the city's Ottoman heritage.
UNESCO recognised
The Mesir Macunu Festival was recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2012.
EU Protected
Manisa Mesir Macunu received EU Protected Geographical Indication recognition in 2024.
Herbs & spices
The tradition is built around a distinctive blend of 41 herbs and spices.
